a cd-rom is a cd-rom. what is on it may not be universal, but the cd will show up.

Not unless you install Windows XP or Vista onto it with a free program called Boot Camp. It comes free on new Macs. Otherwise, it would only have OS X, and it wouldn’t support the CD-ROM.
