Is Apple software written using a Mac?
Is basic Apple software/applications such as iTunes, Quicktime, iWork, etc… developed using a Mac on a Mac OS platform or on something else then ported over?

I believe Apple engineers develop with XCode on Mac OS X. There are probably other tools out there, but why would engineers develop on anything other than the system they were coding for?

I know that the Mac OS is developed specifically for the Mac machines and hardware. iTunes was originally just an MP3 player developed for MacOS, but Apple bought it from the owners and renamed (and revamped) it as iTunes, originally only playable for Mac OS. Additionally, Quicktime was first developed for a Mac OS (a year before Microsoft debued its video program). iWork (formerly Keynote) was also created specifically for the Mac OS. One reason Macs are so popular is the lack of viruses for these computers. The reason for that is the simplicity in hardware, and Mac-specific applications. As these programs became more popular, Mac created versions for PCs.
Hope all that helped answer your question.

probably written in c++ , so they are easily portable, you just compile the code to each target machine..
why mac’s have gone intel based, as developers were probably moaning it was costing them a lot more to make 2 versions of the same things, at least with the same kind of processors that cuts down a lot on devlopment time, obviously they have to change machine specific things but far less.
"As these programs became more popular, Mac created versions for PCs. " < i would disagree, why not port "logic" back to pc.. or "finalcut pro".. it won’t happen i’m 95% sure.
only reason i-tunes etc was ported , is that the pc market is bigger AND they would lose lots of money if they didn’t.
as for the RUBBISH argument about mac’s having little viruses…
why do they make anti virus programs for mac…. also the fact it is a FAR smaller platform in the percentage of owners.
so ofcourse people are gonna target pc’s far more.
