An Apple Genius told me that Limewire is poorly written software & it will crash my hard-drive. True?

I did use it for about a year with zero problems. But the Apple Genius seemed so credible that I just allowed her to delete it from my laptop.
I do not want a morals lesson, just an answer to my question.

    no. my cousin has limewire and nothing ever happened to her hard-drive.

    Eh…its an OK program. It shouldn’t crash your hard drive. The only problems I’ve seen come from people downloading viruses.

    Limewire functions pretty reliably, many people (myself included) have used it without any issues whatsoever.

    There is, as with any P2P software, a danger that you might download a virus or other malicious programs that could harm your computer and make it appear that Limewire is the cause, but this is more user error than the fault of the program.

    i use limewire if their is a bad exe. file it will let you know . ihave used lime for around three years

    Yes! It completely shut down my computer it will work for like 7 months then it will crash ur hard-drive. But it slows down your computer alot too.

    I cant say i agree or disagree with it being poorly written, but i can say that any p2p file sharing program can be extremely harmful to your system in terms of opening up doors(ports) for viruses/spyware to come into your system which in turn can lead to a crashed hard drive.

    Well, actually, Limewire is a pretty dangerous way to go. especially for a mac. But yeah, risks are risks.

    myself and two mates have been using it for 6 months with no problems, apart from vista but beta seems to work alright.

    No it will not crash your drives. only sometimes if u download lots of porn with limewire, you might get virus ( not happens all the time). The thing is you might not be able to get rid of pop-up porn sites and you might be embarrassed in front of others.
    If ever you get such pop-ups and can’t get rid of them, just format your computer.
